Church with a Casual Atmosphere
Pastor Mike McKinney

By Angela Ardery

Dallas County Cowboy Church pastor Mike McKinney is as casual as he is passionate. He’s as engaging as politician running for office and he’s as theologically knowledgeable as your average biblical scholar.
And, he’s as pioneering as – well, a cowboy.
You find him on Sundays preaching the good news at the Dallas County Cowboy Church in Balch Springs located off of Pioneer. The church is noted for its casual cowboy atmosphere.  It was started two years ago by Dallas Baptist Associated, Shiloh Terrace Baptist Church, Lakeside Baptist and First of Sunnyvale Baptist Church.  Together, they requested Pastor Mike McKinney from Olney, Texas to be the church’s first pastor.
“My most memorable moment of Pastor McKinney is the first service at the church, so many events happened and it was a new beginning,” says Cecil Deadman.
Pastor Mike McKinney has been preaching for 39 years. He started after  he graduated high school and he even continued with it during college. He decided during high school this is a passion of his and a calling in his heart from God.
“Being a pastor is all I have ever really done work ethically,” said pastor Mike McKinney. “I enjoy working with people and worshiping the most.”
Before he started preaching at the Dallas County Cowboy Church, pastor McKinney also  preached at a church in Montana for 18 years. He was recommended to preach for the Cowboy Church, and the Baptist group called him personally to be the preacher for their new church.
“Pastor McKinney has a lot to offer to people, he is a good friend and pastor,” said Mr. Deadman. “He knows how to take care of people’s needs.”
Pastor McKinney preaches at every service for the Cowboy Church and attends all church events; for this Easter there are two morning services at 8:30am and 10:30am with a free pancake breakfast and an Easter egg hunt around noon. Pastor McKinney has also been working on raising donations for the church to have a new building.
The Cowboy Church has services every Sunday morning at 8:30am and 10:30am, and Pastor Mike McKinney accepts prayer request on their website: www.dallascountycowboychurch.com.
